The new mall, with its wide sidewalks and expansive parking lot, was designed to give workers a good view of the downtown.
But the company that built it, Stonestongreen Galleria, is now in talks with the city about demolishing the structure, according to the Indianapolis Star.
Stonestreen is the world’s largest retailer.
It is also the largest employer in the area, employing more than 9,000 people.
The building’s demise is not expected to affect the number of jobs it can retain, said Matt Brown, director of the St. Anthony Mall District, a local advocacy group.
“We’re confident that the district is ready to take on this project,” Brown told the Star.
“There’s no reason to think we can’t do it.”
