After three years of injury, Gareth Bale is back in the Champions League final after securing his place in Spain’s group stage.
It is a return to form that has seen him score 11 goals in the tournament and add a brace to his tally of eight assists in the competition.
It was a difficult season for Bale, who missed the opening two games of the campaign due to a knee injury.
But now he is fit and firing, and has scored four goals in his last four matches, the 25-year-old will be looking to put that form to good use in Saturday’s final.
“I’m just happy that I can score goals,” Bale said after his goal.
“It is always nice to score goals.
I’m just pleased that I’m playing in the final and hopefully I can help Real Madrid win the title.”
There is a great opportunity for the Welshman to break into the starting line-up for his country against France in Paris, and he has already made his intentions clear to Real Madrid, who have made an offer.
“They’ve told me to get fit,” Bale explained.
“If I don’t get fit then I’ll just be in the bench for the rest of the year.”
But the thing is that it’s the same as everyone else.
They’ve told us to get ready.
They have a great team in front of us and I’m happy to be part of it.
